Renfe’s hybrid
high-speed dual-gauge,
dual-voltage trainset, the
Series 730, is an evolution
of the Series 130 in which
in addition to the variable
gauge and bi-voltage
capabilities of the latter,
Series 730 trains can also
run on both electrified
and unelectrified lines,
since they combine
electric traction and
diesel engines. The
latter provide an
alternative source of
power for sections
without OHL.
