capable of circulating at over 250 km/h and with the
possibility of reaching 300 km/h. The tender was won
by Alstom and their trains became Renfe’s Series 100
which ran on the Madrid-Seville line.
The existence of surplus rolling stock meant
that some trains were fitted with Iberian gauge
bogies and so became Series 101 trains running on
the Mediterranean corridor. Numerous sections
of this corridor had been upgraded to 200 km/h
s100 running, and the Euromed service had been in place
since June 1997.
Later upgrades of Series 100 and 101 trains
Alstom Series 100, gave rise to Series 100R. These upgrades took place
in 2007, when the trains were reaching their half-
100R, 101 and 100 F life after fifteen years of uninterrupted service.
